Begin with the premise that the word is holy.
What do you need it to tell you? What generous things
will it offer, what buried things.
Begin your work. You are not the first,
we are here with you. It is hard labour,
many go blind, many lose their breath.
But the word is holy,
and the word is what we've got,
and as the years turn over years
the weight of each heart
will press its hopeful shape into the dust.
