Mar. 22nd, 2010 06:50 amI think it has probably been a million years since I posted something. I am sad and tired and anxious and poor and playing too many computer games. Here is something I wrote while helping to run the creative writing club at a local high school:

She stood near the Gardening display, smoking, and watched the pickup truck pull into the lot. It was bright green, a Chevy, and a much older model – almost an antique. There was a dog sitting in the passenger seat, cheerfully lolling its pink tongue out the window – its russet coat seemed to match the green of the truck, and Adelaide found herself wondering for a moment if the owner had after all acquired the dog in order to match the truck, or maybe the other way around. In any case it seemed to her, that when the dog died the truck would have to go as well – the way it was with old married couples, passing on one right after the other.
She finished her cigarette and walked over to the Chevy, tossing the butt in amongst the hydrangeas.

For quite awhile I wasn't sure what was happening next but eventually I realized that she is going on a date with the man in the truck.
