i don’t know how to do this

let me do the work of stars
or put me in charge of the rain
i am good with numbers
that are too large to calculate
and furthermore
i have years of professional experience
getting wet and then
drying off

and that is only one of many talents;
sunsets are also familiar to me.
sunrises not as much,
but i can learn on the job
up is practically the same as down
and it’s all circles anyways

or maybe gravity.
i could work with gravity;
when i drop an object
regardless of its weight or size
it falls towards the center of the earth,
reliably;
i would describe myself as an expert at gravity

just let me do the work of stars
the speed of light
and distance
let me be air pressure,
or a cathedral’s echo;

if you let me
i will hold atoms together
the way my body is held together
the way constellations are held together

because i don’t know how to do this
i don’t know what to tell you
i am qualified
to live in this world
and i am just looking for something
that i can do
perfectly
